Gardening Show

AQUA
When HTV wanted a distinctive garden to draw visitors to their marquee at The National Amateur Gardening Show, they sought a Bath-based designer Melanie Jackson. The result was garden entitled 'AQUA'.

"Traditionally, water has been a classic feature of gardens, usually brought there by artificial means. With my design, I decided to take this completely barren spot and create an artificial environment which captures the spirit of water through movement, sound and refection". The visitors are drawn along a meandering path, allowing partial views of what lies ahead. The choice of materials was key, with elements such as glass, bamboo, pebbles and beads combined with the colours associated with water. A beautiful blue glass sculpture stands where traditionally a water feature would be.

As with water, the mood of the garden will change with the weather. When the sun shines there will be sparkles and reflections from the glass but when the wind blows, the bamboo will rustle, the beads will sway and the grasses ripple. The aim is to create a space which is calming, beautiful and spiritual.
